Plan a ten-minute presentation without rushing
Budget for speaking, slides and the audience.
Separate your speaking time
Ten minutes at 130 WPM allows 1,300 words if all ten minutes are spoken delivery. Reserving two minutes for demonstrations or questions leaves 1,040 words. Clarify whether the event includes questions inside your allotted time.
Build checkpoints
Try one minute for the problem, three for the first example, three for the proposed approach, one for the conclusion and two reserved for questions or a demonstration. Section estimates are checkpoints, not promises of precise delivery.
Practice with the actual slides
Reading the script alone leaves out clicking, looking back at a visual and waiting for an audience response. Run the whole presentation once. Edit whichever section consistently overruns, then test again.
